Slather this rich, slow-simmered barbeque sauce all over grilled chicken, steak, or even sweet potatoes!
Usually, store bought barbecue sauces are filled with sugar, added salt, preservatives, and other unnecessary ingredients that are certainly not Paleo. Fortunately, it’s easy to make your own barbeque sauce using just a handful of ingredients.
Our homemade BBQ sauce starts with a base of tomato paste, apple juice, and spices like chili powder, cayenne pepper, and paprika. The combination of naturally sweet and spicy flavors makes for a zesty sauce you’ll want to put on everything.
To make it, simmer all the ingredients over medium-low heat for about half an hour. The result should be thick and fragrant. Pour it into a jar and use as a marinade, a basting sauce, or as a dip.
Tips:
- Let the sauce cool a bit before storing in the fridge. It will last about a week.
- Be sure to use fresh-squeezed apple juice and salt-free spices to keep this recipe truly Paleo. Want more kick? Add more cayenne!
- Need some inspiration? Serve it with these grilled chicken and veggie skewers.
