This Stuffed Crab recipe has an upscale presentation but is simple to make and won’t take up too much time in the kitchen for Paleo athletes. Serve this over a bed of steamed veggies for an easy family dinner, or enjoy on your own throughout the week between workouts. If you can’t find whole crabs to stuff, this recipe easily converts into crab cakes, as shown in the photos.

Years ago, people with heart disease were advised to steer clear of shellfish, which were believed to have too much cholesterol. It’s true that shellfish are high in cholesterol—but the good news is that we don’t have to avoid it. It turns out that dietary cholesterol has a very small effect upon blood cholesterol when the food’s total saturated fat content is low. Crab has only 1 gram of saturated fat per 100-gram portion, so we encourage you to eat as much crab and shellfish as you enjoy.

Fish and shellfish like crab are also some of the most healthful animal foods you can consume and represent a nutritional foundation for Paleo athletes because they are enriched sources of the therapeutic, long-chain omega-3 fatty acids known as EPA and DHA.

Besides being rich sources of EPA and DHA, seafood represents some of the best high-protein foods to consume. The high protein content for Paleo athletes is central to many performance benefits, including weight loss due to an increased metabolism, muscle growth, recovery, and curbed appetite.1

TIPS:

  • If you can’t find Paleo mayo at the store, it’s easy to make at home with our recipe. For an extra boost of omega-3s, use flaxseed oil or walnut oil as the base for your mayo.
  • To make this recipe TRUEPALEO™, skip the coconut flour.
