This Roasted Nuts recipe is a better-for-you version of that classic snack found at special events like carnivals and sports games, or every day at the corner food cart in major cities and on boardwalks. It combines pure spices with a small amount of maple syrup, ensuring the flavors stick to the nuts without any extra additives or unnecessary sugars. Roasted nuts are the perfect on-the-go treat to satisfy an end-of-workday craving, or they can be a great afternoon snack to pack in your kids’ lunchboxes. 

Not only does this simple spice mix evoke the scent of a fall candle, but it also offers various health benefits. Cinnamon has been shown to reduce inflammation and combat free radicals, while nutmeg may help improve sleep quality and duration. 

TIPS: 

  • Make this recipe into a fall treat by swapping the cinnamon and nutmeg for a Paleo-approved pumpkin pie or apple pie spice.  
  • Swap out the almond, cashews, or walnuts for most other nuts—just not peanuts.  
  • Because nuts are not part of an Autoimmune Protocol (AIP) diet, this recipe is not AIP-friendly.

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp maple syrup

  • 2 tbsp cinnamon

  • 2 tbsp nutmeg (AIP - omit)

  • 1 cups almond (AIP - omit)

  • 1 cups cashews (AIP - omit)

  • 1 cups walnuts (AIP - omit)

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F.

  2. Pour nuts into a small bowl and drizzle maple syrup on top. Mix well until the syrup coats the nuts evenly.

  3. Sprinkle cinnamon and nutmeg over nuts and mix to distribute the spices evenly.

  4. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and spread spiced nut mixture across the pan in a single layer.

  5. Bake for 5 minutes or until nuts become fragrant.

  6. Let the nuts cool for 5-10 minutes before eating.
