If you’re looking to skip store-bought products with potentially concerning ingredients—or interested in making more lifestyle products at home—try this DIY Makeup Remover.

First, you’ll need a clean glass dropper bottle or roller bottle to store your makeup remover. For a sustainable option, repurpose an old bottle by peeling off the label and thoroughly cleaning to ensure the product doesn’t become contaminated. If any sticky residue remains on the surface of the bottle from a previous label, clean it off with warm water and rubbing alcohol.

This simple DIY Makeup Remover has many benefits to make your skin healthier:

  • Jojoba oil has been shown to provide softening effects that restore the skin’s natural shine without leaving behind a greasy residue. [1]
  • Vitamin E oil is one of the main ingredients for over-the-counter anti-aging supplements. It also is a popular application for treating burns, scars, and wounds. [2]
  • Adding chamomile flowers as the final ingredient can reduce bacterial and wound healing times. [3]
  • Chamomile and vitamin E have both been studied to treat atopic dermatitis, and both potentially improve skin restoration. [4,5]

We used pure vitamin E oil straight from a dropper bottle, but you can also use a single capsule of vitamin E or ⅛ teaspoon of the liquid form from a pour bottle—each option typically provides the equivalent 200 mg. If using the capsule form, just poke a hole through the capsule with a clean needle and squeeze the liquid out. Make sure you wash your hands before making this DIY Makeup Remover!
