Say Hello

Nell Stephenson is a mom, nutritionist and "brothista."

She was an early advocate of The Paleo Diet and collaborated with Dr. Loren Cordain to co-write The Paleo Diet Cookbook.

She incorporated Paleoista in 2011 and has been featured on Dr. Oz on multiple occasions; she is an established speaker on the topic of creating optimal health through food.

Nell's main ethos is around organic, natural foods, sourcing from local farms with a low carbon footprint, and maximal focus on ethical treatment of animals and sustainably raised vegetables.

From her own digestive health issues starting as a child, Paleoista has grown into a platform for knowledge for clients and followers around the world who are looking for optimal health with optimally sourced and gathered foods.

Her bone broth recipe grew out of her life-long vision to change the way people eat, and her dedication to Paleo-based eating and the ketogenic diet was inspired by her own sickness following years of low-fat and vegan eating.

She has an exercise science degree from the University of Southern California, a health/fitness instructor certification from the American College of Sports Medicine, and has over a decade of experience in the health, fitness, and nutrition industry. Nell is an elite level marathon runner and Ironman triathlete and has raced eight times at the world championships in Hawaii.

Describe the impact The Paleo Diet has had on your (and/or your family's) life?

It changed my life as it became the foundation upon which we eat as well as how I model and create the customized eating plans for my optimal nutrition coaching clients. An authentic Paleo approach truly means we are just eating real food - loads of local, in season, organic veggies, small amounts of properly sourced proteins and ample, natural fats. My whole family loves it, and we are thriving - husband (we are both athletes), son (13 mos old) and two dogs.

What does “healthy living” mean to you? And what do you like to eat when you go to the movies (i.e. what’s your favorite cheat food)?

Healthy living is a comprehensive approach to how we can choose to create health; not just through food but how we move, rest and recover, and work / play. For my family and me, this means mindful eating, conscious living (including daily meditation and yoga a few times per week) and opting to perform optimally, not just as an athlete, but as a mom, a wife, a business person and coach.

What do you enjoy doing when you are not writing for The Paleo Diet?

Long walks with my son, family hikes, being outside, Ironman triathlon, cooking and my work: I truly love teaching others about how they can create healing through food. I am particularly excited about the current project I'm working on: building my bone broth company!
