  1. I’m a vegetarian and been paleo for 6 weeks. I drink a protein drink from Garden of Life Sport version. Will drinking 100 grams of this protein be very similar to eating meat. I’ve been vegetarian for 34 years and just can’t bring myself to eating meat but I’m very serious about eating paleo as best I can! Thank you for your help!!

    • Hi Craig, thanks for your question! The short answer is that no it’s not the same unfortunately. There’s more to it than just getting the protein or more appropriately, the amino acids. There are a lot of micronutrients that we get from eating meats that are very hard to get from other sources such as B12 and B6 and heme iron. It’s good you’re being careful and looking for the highest quality vegetarian protein sources. That will help you. Dr Cordain has already covered it on the website, but we do not believe that a vegetarian diet is as healthy as an omnivorous diet (that still contains a lot of healthy fruits and vegetables.) However, we know many of you do it for other reasons including ethical and sustainability reasons. I personally admire that.

      • On top of that, red meat contains many other nutrients such as creatine, CLA, vitamin K2, vitamin E, magnesium, potassium, L-carnitine, carnosine, taurine, beta-alalnine, omega 3, omega 6 (AA), iron all of which help with improving health and building muslce.
