About Eric Manheimer

With nearly 18 years experience, Eric W. Manheimer, PhD is an internationally recognized researcher in the field of systematic reviews and complementary medicine. Systematic reviews have the potential to make healthcare treatment and policy decisions more rational by basing them on current evidence from randomized trials. Systematic reviews can also document the scientific evidence for treatments popular with the Public but not currently endorsed by health care systems, for example acupuncture and the Paleolithic diet. Eric has been involved with the systematic review movement full-time for nearly 18 years, working on behalf of the Cochrane Collaboration. He's worked with and considers mentors some of the most influential and outspoken evidence-based medicine scholars in the world, notably Drs. Brian Alper, Doug Altman, Barker Bausell, Lex Bouter, Edzard Ernst, Jeanette Ezzo, Sir Iain Chalmers, Zbys Fedorowicz, SR Narahari (evidence-based Ayurveda), Danielle van der Windt, and Esther van Zuuren.

First Systematic Review of the Paleo Diet

The Paleo diet is the hottest diet in the world. It was ranked as the top diet related term searched in Google for 2013 and 2014. Celebrities are on it. Politicians are on it. It’s on the news. It’s what people are talking about. It’s also controversial. Paleo advocates selecting foods based on evolutionary theories and principles. This doesn’t make sense to everyone. Some have argued that it’s impossible to know what our ancestors from the Paleolithic era ate. Others have argued that there is no clinical evidence to support Paleo.
